Throughout myth and legend, the helpful beast has been a common theme across cultures. Here are a few that I've come across in my reading:
Akupara
In the Hindu tradition, the Akupara is the turtle on whose back the world is perched. Usually pictured with four elephants on top of it holding the dome-shaped world, this gigantic amphibian is also called "The World Turtle." Its Chinese counterpart is Ao, a giant turtle who holds up the sky.

Alicorn
Referring to the Latin words for wing, ala, and horn, corn, this fantastical creature is a winged unicorn. Not to be confused with Pegasus, the winged (horn-less) horse of Greek mythology.

Amphitere/Amphithere/Amphiptere
Similar to a wyvern or lindworm, an amphitere is a winged serpent sometimes regarded as a type of dragon.
